The governments of Australia and Indonesia officially launched the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Justice 3 (AIPJ3) in Jakarta on July 28. This is a five-year program valued at up to A$63 million. Its main goals are to strengthen justice and security institutions, uphold the rule of law, and support stability and prosperity in both Indonesia and the broader region. These aims reflect the shared interests of both countries.
Australia and Indonesia have been long-term partners in the justice and security sectors through decades of bilateral cooperation. Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Roderick Brazier, expressed pride in their joint achievements. He also reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s priority reforms in these sectors. The launch of AIPJ3 marks a continuation of this trusted partnership.
AIPJ3 builds on the successes of the previous AIPJ2 program. That earlier program contributed to the development of 69 laws, policies, strategies, and action plans. These included reforms addressing sexual violence, violent extremism, and corruption. AIPJ3 aims to continue and expand this critical work.
The program will foster collaboration across government bodies, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector. This cross-sector engagement is seen as essential to achieving long-term impact. By working together, the two countries hope to create a more just and secure society. AIPJ3 is expected to bring meaningful reform and greater regional cooperation.
