Collaborative Solutions Take Center Stage at Transport Safety Symposium

The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, officially opened the National Symposium aimed at promoting safer logistics transportation governance. The event is part of the Polantas Menyapa program, designed to improve road safety. Agus emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to address logistics safety issues. The symposium serves as a platform to seek solutions to the ongoing problem of overloaded and oversized freight vehicles.

Agus highlighted that road accidents involving logistics vehicles remain alarmingly high. This condition calls for increased synergy and collaboration between government bodies, transport stakeholders, and law enforcement. The symposium, he said, is a proactive step to tackle the root causes of these incidents. By sharing ideas and experiences, all parties hope to find sustainable and effective strategies.

Key discussions centered on how the government should follow up with stricter regulation of Over Dimension and Overload (ODOL) vehicles. Agus stressed the need for a comprehensive management approach that balances safety with economic interests. Solutions must not only reduce accident rates but also support fair implementation across the logistics sector. Inclusivity and long-term viability are core principles in these discussions.

In conclusion, Agus clarified that law enforcement is not the main goal. The focus is on developing fair and applicable solutions for safe logistics transport. He stated that ticketing or fines are not something to be proud of. Instead, continuous dialogue is needed to ensure safety can be achieved without placing an unfair burden on transport operators.
