National Pride Across Borders: Preparing Migrant Workers for the World

Indonesia’s elite counter-terrorism unit Densus 88’s Directorate of Prevention, in collaboration with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), organized a four-day Nationalism Outreach Program for prospective Indonesian migrant workers in East Jakarta. Held on July 9, 11, 14, and 16, 2025, the program aimed to strengthen national awareness and ideological resilience among workers before departing abroad. The initiative took place at the BP3MI DKI Jakarta Hall in Ciracas. Participants came from diverse backgrounds and were bound for various destinations across Asia and Europe.

The participants were divided into four classes based on their placement countries. Class A consisted of 134 workers heading to Taiwan, while Class B included 31 workers bound for both Singapore and Taiwan. Class C, the largest group with 137 participants, was assigned to a wide array of destinations including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, and others. Class D included 30 workers who would be deployed to European countries.

The sessions were delivered by nine speakers from the police force, including female daiyah personnel, who explained the threats of intolerance, radicalism, and terrorism (IRET) that often target migrant workers. Preventive education was provided in the form of “ideological vaccination,” alongside real-life case studies of radicalized migrants to help participants identify recruitment patterns. Speakers also emphasized Indonesia’s Four Pillars: Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. The program sought to prepare migrants not only for professional success but also for upholding national values abroad.

The sessions were highly interactive and received positive feedback from participants. Many expressed their readiness to act as agents of anti-radicalism within their future workplaces and communities. Organizers hope the outreach will create globally competent workers who are also ideologically grounded and resilient. This initiative reflects a broader national effort to safeguard Indonesia’s human capital abroad from ideological threats.
