Authorities Urge Citizens to Be Road Safety Warriors in 2025 Accident Retrospective

Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, called on the public to become traffic safety warriors during the “Polantas Menyapa” Traffic Accident Retrospective 2025 held at Jakarta’s Car Free Day around the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout on Sunday, August 24 2025. The event highlighted the shared responsibility of road users in reducing accident rates and preventing fatalities. His message underscored that traffic safety is not merely an Institutional duty but a collective civic obligation. The gathering also served as a symbolic reminder that traffic culture must be built on awareness and discipline, not only enforcement.

Agus emphasized that the core mission of the Traffic Corps is more than just managing road flows; it includes protection, service, and guidance for the public. He reiterated that law enforcement remains a last resort, while personal discipline behind the wheel is the true foundation of safe mobility. His statement framed traffic safety as a social contract, requiring every driver and rider to take ownership of their behavior. Such an approach reflects a broader philosophy of community-centered policing in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Acting President Director of PT Jasa Raharja, Dewi Aryani Suzanna, highlighted that the retrospective was not a mere ceremonial gesture but a space for collective reflection. She reminded attendees that road accidents often lead to fatalities, long-term suffering, and heavy financial burdens. Dewi called for the moment to strengthen collective awareness in preventing future tragedies. Her remarks positioned road safety not only as a technical challenge but also as a moral duty shared across society.

Praise also came from Chairman of the Indonesian Disability Association (PPDI), Norman, who noted the significance of support provided to accident survivors with disabilities. He underlined that such assistance restores confidence and helps victims reintegrate into the community with dignity. Norman encouraged future programs to move beyond reflection and include economic empowerment initiatives. He concluded that sustainable livelihood opportunities are essential for accident survivors to live independently and contribute to society.
