The Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) has issued a clarification following viral claims on social media alleging that flood-control pumps were deliberately turned off and weather modification was conducted during a public event on August 28, 2025. Head of the agency, Ika Agustin Ningrum, confirmed that all pump houses in Jakarta were fully operational in line with standard operating procedures on that date. She further noted that both stationary and mobile pumps in flood-prone areas remained active, and residents could independently verify their status through the official government monitoring site. The agency stressed that transparency and accessibility of operational data are essential to maintain public trust.
Addressing the rumor regarding Weather Modification Operations (OMC), Ika clarified that no such activity was conducted by her office. She explained that the authority for weather modification lies with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and its partner institutions. According to her, the most recent operation had taken place from August 17 to 21, 2025, under the coordination of Jakarta’s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in collaboration with BMKG and the Indonesian Air Force. By reaffirming jurisdictional boundaries, the SDA sought to dispel misinformation circulating online.
The SDA chief also reminded the public to be more discerning about unverified claims spread through social platforms. She urged citizens to rely on official government channels such as the Jakarta provincial website and the agency’s own platforms for accurate updates. This guidance comes amid growing concerns about the rapid spread of disinformation, which often complicates crisis management efforts. By steering residents toward trusted sources, the agency aims to ensure that information serves safety rather than confusion.
Ika concluded by emphasizing the agency’s commitment to protecting Jakarta residents from flooding. She highlighted ongoing coordination with multiple government bodies to guarantee that water management systems function optimally, especially during high-risk weather conditions. The statement reinforced SDA’s pledge to deliver reliable services, prioritizing both safety and comfort for citizens of the capital. As Jakarta continues to grapple with climate and infrastructure challenges, the episode underscores the importance of accurate communication between authorities and the public.
