In South Jakarta’s Cilandak subdistrict, the local Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Implementation Unit successfully completed drainage repairs and dredging along Jalan Banjarsari, RW 08, Kelurahan Cilandak Barat. The project was carried out following proposals raised during the 2025 Musrenbang, or Development Planning Forum, which prioritizes citizen input in government programs. By addressing long-standing drainage issues, the initiative demonstrates the city’s responsiveness to community concerns. It also reflects the growing importance of public participation in shaping urban infrastructure improvements.
Head of the Cilandak Water Resources Unit, Yansori, explained that the work covered a 320-meter channel with dimensions of 60 centimeters in both height and width. Eight personnel were deployed with supporting equipment to carry out the task. According to Yansori, dredging was crucial as sediment and waste had accumulated up to 40 centimeters thick, reducing the channel’s capacity to manage rainwater. The repairs, launched in June 2025, were completed smoothly and on schedule.
Yansori emphasized the need for residents to support the project’s impact by maintaining cleanliness and avoiding the disposal of waste into drainage systems. He pointed out that littering directly contributes to blockages and flooding risks, undermining the very purpose of the infrastructure. His remarks underline the shared responsibility between government workers and local communities in sustaining flood-prevention measures. Such partnerships are vital in a city that continues to grapple with seasonal flooding.
Residents themselves welcomed the effort, noting it directly addressed long-standing anxieties over water overflow during heavy rains. One local citizen, Edi, voiced appreciation for the government’s response, saying that fears of reduced water retention space had long pressured the neighborhood. With the drainage channel now restored, residents hope their area will remain safer from flooding disruptions. The initiative stands as both a practical fix and a symbolic reminder of the need for collective action in maintaining Jakarta’s resilience.
