The 2025 Jakarta Rock Climbing Circuit, held at the Jakarta International Climbing Wall (JICW) in Jakarta Garden City, East Jakarta, from September 11–12, concluded successfully. Organized by the Jakarta East branch of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), the event marked an early milestone in nurturing athletes ahead of the 2028 National Sports Week (PON) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The competition drew participants from all five Jakarta municipalities, fostering healthy rivalry and camaraderie among local climbers. It also demonstrated Jakarta’s strong potential to produce world-class athletes through consistent grassroots development.
Chairman of FPTI East Jakarta, RH Victor Aritonang, expressed optimism that the capital’s athletes could secure gold medals at PON 2028. He highlighted that the success of this circuit boosts confidence and serves as motivation for better preparation in the coming years. Victor emphasized the importance of continuous training, athlete discipline, and proper support from local sports authorities. He added that Jakarta’s strong climbing community provides a solid foundation for developing champions capable of representing Indonesia internationally.
Victor, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), noted that this competition serves as a key platform to scout and train promising young athletes. According to him, structured competitions like the climbing circuit are vital to ensure a steady supply of skilled climbers for future national events. He called for greater collaboration between FPTI and the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency to sustain athlete development. The growing enthusiasm for climbing, he said, reflects Jakarta’s increasing potential to excel both nationally and globally in the sport.
Event Coordinator Ii Zaenal praised the strong enthusiasm of participants and the teamwork shown by the organizing committee throughout the two-day event. He affirmed that the climbing circuit would become an annual tradition under FPTI Jakarta’s calendar. Meanwhile, Secretary-General of FPTI Jakarta, Sandy, confirmed that the next circuit’s host city will soon be announced by the provincial leadership. He concluded that FPTI aims to turn this series into a continuous training arena to refine athletic skills and strengthen Jakarta’s dominance in Indonesian sport climbing.
