Field Coordinator of the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department (SDA), Indra Sanjaya, led the rapid response to repair a collapsed embankment along the Cakung Lama River Connector Channel in South Tugu, Koja District. The damage, which occurred near Jalan Batu Tumbuh RW 03 and 04, raised safety concerns among local residents and community leaders. Early investigations suggested that the collapse was caused by heavy machinery scraping the lower foundation during river dredging. The incident prompted immediate action to prevent further erosion and protect nearby homes.
The repair was divided into two stages, covering 5.5 meters in RW 04 and 20 meters in RW 03, with the embankment structure measuring 70 centimeters wide and 1.6 meters high. Eight Blue Troops personnel, supported by a unit of heavy equipment, were deployed to restore the retaining wall. The project began on September 30, 2025, with completion targeted for the end of October, depending on weather conditions. Indra confirmed that one section had already been completed, allowing the team to continue with the next phase.
According to Indra, heavy rainfall and high water levels remain the main challenges that could delay progress. He emphasized that the goal of the project is not only to repair the damage but also to strengthen the area’s flood resilience. The SDA Sub-Department remains committed to improving water infrastructure stability in anticipation of the rainy season. This initiative reflects Jakarta’s ongoing investment in proactive, community-driven urban maintenance.
Neighborhood Unit Chairman, Sarmada, expressed gratitude for the government’s swift response to residents’ reports. He noted that the area is often frequented by children, making the damaged site especially dangerous. The completed repairs have made the neighborhood safer and visually neater, bringing relief to local families. Residents now hope the improvements will prevent similar incidents in the future while enhancing their overall environment.
