Dozens of Communication Science students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Bung Karno University attended a discussion event on Thursday, October 30, to commemorate Youth Pledge Day. The event, held in collaboration with the Akar Kota Community, carried the theme “From Youth for Jakarta” with the subtheme “Shaping a Golden Generation with Morality and Integrity.” The session was attended by the Dean of FISIP UBK, Galuh Sukmaranti, the Deputy Speaker of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Rany Mauliani, and the Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim. The gathering aimed to inspire students to become socially conscious and ethically grounded young leaders.
Dean of FISIP UBK, Galuh Sukmaranti, expressed appreciation for the collaboration that made the event possible and highlighted its significance in nurturing youth leadership. She emphasized that the discussion represented the university’s commitment to producing a generation that is not only intelligent but also bold enough to be agents of positive change. Galuh encouraged students to embody the spirit of the Youth Pledge and the teachings of Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, through integrity and strong moral values. According to her, education should cultivate both intellect and ethical courage in shaping the nation’s future.
UBK Communication Student Association Chairperson, Maysha Dwi Pradika, said the event provided students with an opportunity to interpret the spirit of the Youth Pledge in today’s context. She noted that the discussion encouraged young people to think critically and make tangible contributions to their city and country.
Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim, also urged students to practice ethics and integrity in their use of social media. He reminded them that responsible digital behavior reflects one’s moral character and self-awareness as a citizen.
Deputy Speaker of the Jakarta DPRD, Rany Mauliani, echoed the importance of wisdom and restraint in expressing opinions online and offline. She called on students to act thoughtfully before posting or sharing opinions while also engaging in community initiatives. Rany emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government has numerous programs designed to enhance youth development. Meanwhile, Akar Kota Community Chairperson, Frans Ekodhanto, concluded that his organization plans to continue organizing similar discussion forums featuring field experts. He expressed hope that such forums would become a lifestyle for Jakarta’s youth in building a better future.
