As the inauguration of the Jakarta Intellectual Property Market 2025 unfolded, the event took on heightened significance when Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, declared it officially open. The initiative marks Indonesia’s first dedicated platform for connecting intellectual property creators with industry players to accelerate commercial partnerships. During his visit to the exhibition area, the official expressed admiration for the high-caliber creative works, noting that they aligned with international standards. Observers viewed the event as a pivotal moment in Jakarta’s efforts to strengthen its creative ecosystem ahead of the city’s 500-year milestone in 2027.
The gathering also became an opportunity for the deputy governor to invite creators to contribute to three major visual identity projects: the Jakarta logo, the 500 Years of Jakarta emblem, and the Enjoy Jakarta brand. He highlighted the city’s recent improvement in the global City Index—from rank 74 to 71—as evidence of growing creative capacity. The official voiced confidence that Jakarta could break into the top 50 by 2030 through sustained creative development. He further underscored the role of intellectual property as a new force capable of elevating Jakarta’s profile on the world stage.
The inaugural market featured 28 exhibitors showcasing 100 intellectual property works from domestic and international participants, signaling strong industry interest. Organizers viewed the turnout as proof that creative IP from Indonesia is increasingly gaining global recognition. The deputy governor stressed that the provincial government is committed to nurturing a robust IP ecosystem through collaboration spaces, expanded market access, and strategic partnerships. Stakeholders believe such efforts can generate new economic opportunities and support the growth of the national creative industry.
Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, echoed the view that global markets are becoming more accessible to local creators, making IP development a national priority. He stated that Jakarta must position itself as Indonesia’s central hub for intellectual property, including by forming an integrated Film Commission to reinforce audiovisual production. Officials see this as a way to encourage Indonesian creators—particularly those previously working abroad—to return and develop unique characters and stories at home. The event thus stands as both a celebration of creativity and a call for Jakarta to lead the nation’s expanding intellectual property landscape.
