Mayor of South Jakarta, Muhammad Anwar, explained that dredging and community clean-up efforts continue to address areas prone to flooding. These preventive measures include micro and macro drainage maintenance, reservoir and retention pond work, and construction of vertical drainage. The goal is to improve water flow and reduce the risk of standing water during heavy rainfall. Authorities aim to complete the current dredging in Jagakarsa within three weeks.
Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Office, Santo, stated that the dredging of the Lenggong Connector Channel is necessary due to sediment and waste buildup reaching around 1.5 meters. He emphasized that restoring the channel’s capacity will allow water to flow more efficiently. Two excavators and six dump trucks have been deployed to support the operation. The effort began with a mass community cleanup involving approximately 500 personnel.
Santo noted that dredging is also being carried out in Jalan Aren and Jalan Durian. These additional works are part of a broader preventive strategy against flooding in the area. Improving drainage infrastructure remains a key focus in reducing waterlogging issues in Kelurahan Jagakarsa. Authorities hope these steps will significantly mitigate flooding risks.
The local government reaffirms its commitment to flood prevention through continuous coordination and infrastructure improvement. Regular monitoring and prompt action are considered essential to maintaining water management systems. Preventive programs like dredging help strengthen resilience against extreme weather. Officials expect that heavy rains will no longer cause recurring inundation in the affected neighborhoods.
