Thousands of Personnel and Pumps Deployed to Prepare for Tidal Floods

The Jakarta Regional Water Resources Agency (Dinas Sumber Daya Air, SDA) has deployed the Blue Task Force (Satgas Pasukan Biru) to anticipate and manage tidal flooding along the northern coast of Jakarta. A total of 3,908 personnel are on standby in the field as part of flood mitigation efforts. Head of the SDA, Ika Agustin Ningrum, explained that the task force is also conducting routine monitoring to ensure field conditions remain under control. These mitigation measures are intended to effectively respond to extreme weather and potential tidal flooding.

The SDA, through the North Jakarta sub-agency, has also prepared both stationary and mobile pumps, as well as water gates, to address tidal floods. Mobile pumps are particularly used to reach areas that stationary pumps cannot access. Key installations on standby include Marina Water Gate, Kali Asin Pump/Polder, Ancol Pump, Junction PIK Pump, Muara Angke Pump, Pasar Ikan Pump, Tanjungan Pump, Pluit Reservoir Pump House, and Kamal Polder Pump House. These facilities aim to prevent or reduce flooding impact in critical coastal zones.

Ika emphasized that the public can monitor tidal flood developments through the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency website, the JAKI app, or by calling 112 in emergencies. Citizens are urged to remain cautious and vigilant against potential water accumulation. The task force’s deployment represents a coordinated effort between agencies to protect residents and infrastructure. Preparedness measures are designed to ensure rapid response and minimize disruption during extreme tidal events.

Overall, the Blue Task Force initiative reflects proactive disaster management by Jakarta authorities, combining human resources, technical equipment, and real-time monitoring. These measures aim to mitigate both immediate flood impacts and long-term vulnerabilities in coastal neighborhoods. Public engagement and awareness are considered crucial to complement the technical and logistical efforts. Authorities continue to assess the situation and adjust resources as necessary to safeguard affected communities.
