The drainage normalization carried out by the Implementing Unit for Water Resources (Satpel SDA) of Grogol Petamburan District reflects ongoing efforts to reduce flood risk in West Jakarta. The work took place along Jalan Manggis II in Tanjung Duren Utara after assessments found the existing channel structure to be fragile. Officials warned that deteriorating embankments could collapse if left untreated. The project was therefore prioritized to restore safety and functionality.
Field Coordinator of Satpel SDA Grogol Petamburan District, Amin Sali, explained that the process involved dismantling the old drainage channel and its cover. Sediment and mud were then removed to restore water flow capacity. After excavation, the embankments and channel covers were rebuilt and reinforced. This step-by-step approach was intended to ensure long-term durability rather than temporary fixes.
The drainage channel measures 40 centimeters in width and 80 centimeters in height, with normalization work covering a total length of 200 meters. Eight members of the Blue Troops, a municipal water management task force, have been assigned to the project. Work has been ongoing since the previous month and is carried out manually without prefabricated concrete U-ditch components. As a result, completion is projected to take slightly longer than standard installations.
Progress on the project has reached approximately 75 percent, with completion expected within the next two weeks. Amin expressed hope that the channel would function optimally during periods of heavy rainfall once finished. Support also came from Head of Neighborhood Unit RT 06/06, Hendra Priyatna, who praised the efficiency and neat execution of the work. He noted that stronger drainage infrastructure would help prevent waterlogging in the area during future rains.
