The citywide planting initiative led by Chair of the DKI Jakarta Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK), Endang Nugrahani Pramono Anung, highlighted Jakarta’s ongoing commitment to urban greening efforts. Held at Kebun Gangnam in North Jakarta, the event formed part of a hybrid program across all city districts and the Thousand Islands. The activity was initiated by the Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) together with TP PKK to encourage community participation. Its central message underscored aspirations for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Jakarta.
Support for continued planting was echoed by Senior Advisor to TP PKK DKI Jakarta, Dewi Indriati Rano Karno, who emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum. Her remarks reinforced the idea that planting efforts should not be a one-time initiative but an ongoing habit. The encouragement to care for the plants reflected a broader shift toward sustainable urban practices. These perspectives aligned with the program’s intention to build long-term community ownership.
The event also showcased the strategic aims of the KPKP Agency, articulated by Secretary of the KPKP Agency, Mujiati, who framed the movement as part of the national food self-sufficiency agenda. With the theme “Planting Movement for Family Food Security,” the program supported both inflation control and household food resilience. A total of 30,000 seedlings were planted, ranging from chilies and tomatoes to eggplants, fruit plants, and other productive varieties. This distribution demonstrated the scale and ambition of Jakarta’s urban farming vision.
According to city officials, the simultaneous planting involved 742 locations spread across Jakarta’s municipalities and the Thousand Islands. North Jakarta alone held 34 urban farming sites, alongside offices, neighborhood clusters, schools, and public child-friendly parks (RPTRA). Chair of TP PKK North Jakarta, Fida Hendra, noted the significance of Kebun Gangnam being selected as the primary site. The initiative ultimately reflects a collective effort to strengthen food security while advancing the environmental goals outlined in the President’s Asta Cita agenda.
