South Jakarta Environmental Agency Conducts Emissions Tests on 1,937 Vehicles

The South Jakarta Environmental Agency, known locally as Suku Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (Sudin LH), has surpassed its 2025 emissions testing target by a wide margin. By mid-December, the agency had tested 1,937 motor vehicles, well above the initial goal of 1,500 units. The tests covered both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles operating across the municipality. The achievement reflects growing administrative pressure to address chronic air quality concerns in the capital.

Head of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage Section, Tuty Ernawati Sapardin, said the figure could still rise before the year ends. She reported steady growth across each quarter, with the sharpest increase recorded in the third quarter. Gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles were both included in the program. The trend suggests expanding public participation alongside more active field enforcement.

Of the vehicles tested, 1,754 met emissions standards, while 183 failed to comply. Testing activities were conducted free of charge at government offices, district centers, residential areas, and through roadside law enforcement operations. The program was rolled out across all 10 subdistricts in South Jakarta. Community-requested testing sites also played a role in broadening coverage.

Sudin LH views the emissions program as both a regulatory tool and a public awareness campaign. Officials believe routine testing can curb air pollution while encouraging regular vehicle maintenance. The agency plans to intensify collaboration with other stakeholders, particularly through enforcement-based testing. The broader aim is to secure measurable improvements in South Jakarta’s air quality.
