West Jakarta Mayor Urges Residents to Take Fire Prevention More Seriously

The Mayor of West Jakarta, Iin Mutmainnah, underlined her administration’s commitment to strengthening fire prevention efforts in the district. She said the city government would intensify public education and push residents to comply with safety standards to curb the number of fires. According to her, fire incidents stem from many causes, but discipline in using electricity remains a core issue. Her remarks reflect a growing concern over recurring urban fires in densely populated neighborhoods.

Iin explained that many blazes are triggered by negligence in the installation and use of electrical systems that fail to meet proper standards. She added that risky household activities also play a major role in starting fires. The Mayor warned residents not to leave potentially dangerous activities unattended, especially in kitchens. She stressed that cooking should never be left unsupervised because it could lead to fires or gas explosions.

In her view, fire prevention cannot rely solely on government intervention. She urged communities to take collective responsibility for maintaining neighborhood safety. Orderly use of electricity and vigilance toward fire hazards, she said, are the main pillars of prevention. This call highlights the need for a shared culture of safety rather than reactive measures after disasters.

The West Jakarta City Government, she added, has already carried out and will continue to expand outreach programs on fire prevention. These campaigns are designed to raise public awareness in a sustained and widespread manner. Iin emphasized that prevention must be pursued continuously, not only after major incidents. The administration hopes that through cooperation between officials and residents, the risk of devastating fires can be significantly reduced.
