Road Repairs in Jakarta Await Improved Weather Conditions

Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, addressed public concerns over damaged roads caused by prolonged flooding and heavy rainfall across the capital. He explained that the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Public Works Agency, is ready to carry out repairs but remains constrained by ongoing weather conditions. According to him, conducting repairs during periods of high rainfall would be ineffective and wasteful. The administration is therefore opting for a more calculated approach rather than rushed fixes.

Pramono noted that temporary patching under persistent rain often fails within days. He cited a recent case on Gatot Subroto Road, where newly repaired asphalt quickly peeled off after heavy rainfall. The incident occurred despite direct instructions from the Governor to proceed with repairs. This example was used to illustrate why timing is critical in infrastructure maintenance.

Beyond temporary solutions, the Governor emphasized the need for full resurfacing rather than repeated patchwork. Re-asphalting, he said, would provide stronger and more durable road conditions for Jakarta residents. However, such comprehensive work requires better weather and more preparation time. The government is therefore waiting until rainfall intensity subsides before moving forward.

Pramono also assured the public that budget constraints would not hinder road repairs in Jakarta. He stated that sufficient funding has already been allocated for proper asphalt replacement once conditions allow. The focus, he stressed, is on long-term durability rather than short-term appearances. This stance reflects the provincial government’s intent to prioritize effectiveness over speed in managing urban infrastructure.
