Personnel from Pulau Harapan Urban Village, in coordination with the North Thousand Islands Community Health Center, carried out fogging operations at several locations to prevent the spread of dengue fever. The initiative reflects heightened vigilance in island areas that are prone to mosquito breeding, particularly during the rainy season. Urban Village Head, Nur Alim, said the activity was intended as an anticipatory public health measure. He emphasized that breaking the transmission chain was essential to protecting residents.
The fogging operation involved Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling personnel, known as PPSU, with additional support from the Environmental Agency. Several strategic locations were targeted, including schools, the urban village office, temporary waste collection sites, and residential neighborhoods. These sites were selected due to their high levels of daily activity and potential exposure. The coordinated approach highlighted cross-sector collaboration at the local level.
Beyond fogging, routine mosquito nest eradication activities continue to be conducted on a weekly basis. These efforts focus on maintaining environmental cleanliness and eliminating standing water that can serve as breeding grounds. Residents were encouraged to actively participate by applying the 3M Plus method, which includes draining, covering, recycling, and additional preventive actions. Community involvement was presented as a critical component of sustainable dengue prevention.
The program received positive feedback from North Thousand Islands Regency Council Member, Sahdan, who noted the importance of preventive action. He observed that dengue cases in the area remain low, with no new infections reported so far. Preventive health measures were seen as essential not only for residents but also for maintaining a safe environment for visitors. The initiative underscored the role of early intervention in safeguarding public health in vulnerable regions.
