Jakarta Council and Provincial Government Join Forces to Tackle Key Issues

Deputy Chair of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Wibi Andrino, highlighted three major issues that remain the legislature’s priority during the first year of leadership under Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno: flooding, traffic congestion, and poverty. After attending a presentation on the provincial government’s one-year performance, Wibi praised the administration for completing 97 percent of its quick win programs, with the remaining three percent still in progress. He described the achievement as commendable while emphasizing the need to stay focused on fundamental challenges.

Regarding flood control, Wibi stressed the importance of strengthening mitigation measures, including the normalization of the Ciliwung River. He affirmed that the DPRD would continue supporting executive efforts to reduce flood risks across the capital. On traffic congestion, he underscored the expansion and integration of public transportation services as a key solution, backing the development of Transjakarta and the broader Transjabodetabek network to better connect Jakarta with surrounding buffer areas.

To address poverty, Wibi emphasized the importance of maintaining the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) program to ensure access to education for underprivileged residents. He reaffirmed that the program would not face budget cuts and is expected to continue expanding. According to him, tackling flooding, congestion, and poverty consistently over the five-year leadership term is essential to achieving meaningful progress.

Meanwhile, Chair of Commission D of the Jakarta DPRD, Yuke Yurike, also acknowledged the administration’s first-year achievements but noted that significant challenges remain, particularly income inequality amid fiscal constraints. She emphasized that the DPRD would ensure budget allocations are effectively directed toward addressing core public concerns, especially flood mitigation, transportation improvements, and poverty reduction, to realize a more humane and well-managed Jakarta.
