Revitalization of Taman Semanggi Begins, Set to Become Jakarta’s New Icon

Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, inaugurated the groundbreaking for the Semanggi Park revitalization project in South Jakarta on Friday (20/2). The project aims to transform Taman Semanggi into a modern green public space and a new urban showcase, in preparation for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027. Pramono emphasized that the redevelopment honors the grand vision of Bung Karno from 1962, with the park’s four-leaf Semanggi symbol representing function, connectivity, transformation, and aesthetics, now updated to meet contemporary urban needs.

Covering approximately 6.5 hectares across four sides of the Semanggi Interchange, the area has long been passive and fragmented by heavy traffic. Through revitalization, it will become an active public space and a connectivity hub to facilitate mobility and social activities without disrupting traffic flow. The project will reactivate key public facilities, including sports areas, communal plazas, and multipurpose spaces accessible to all groups.

Pramono highlighted that the park will be fully inclusive, designed for everyone to enjoy, whether individually or in groups. The revitalization is scheduled to take 18 months, with completion planned for June 2027, coinciding with Jakarta’s 500th anniversary celebrations. The project’s estimated cost is around Rp134 billion, funded entirely through non-APBD sources.

Collaboration with private partners is a central aspect of the funding model, using a creative naming rights scheme. Pramono noted that private contributors investing in the Rp134 billion project will also benefit from the upgraded public space, ensuring that both the city and its partners gain value from the revitalization of Semanggi Park.
