Seniors Liven Up Jakarta Lunar New Year Festival 2026 at HI Roundabout

The Dinas Pemberdayaan, Perlindungan Anak, dan Pengendalian Penduduk Provinsi DKI Jakarta (PPAPP) celebrated the Jakarta Lunar New Year Festival 2026 with senior citizens at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (February 17).

The event, involving 60 elderly participants, was part of the city’s broader commitment to fostering Jakarta as a global, inclusive, tolerant, and elderly-friendly city. The celebration combined cultural appreciation with social engagement in a prominent public space. It also highlighted intergenerational participation in major cultural festivities.

During the event, elderly women from various areas across DKI Jakarta took part in a group walk while enjoying the Lunar New Year decorations around Bundaran HI. The festive ornaments, typically associated with Chinese New Year celebrations, created a vibrant atmosphere in the city center. The activity provided participants with both recreational exercise and an opportunity to experience the cultural ambiance firsthand. It underscored the use of public spaces as inclusive venues for community bonding.

Head of the PPAPP Agency, Dwi Oktavia, stated that this year’s Lunar New Year celebration was more than a ceremonial event. According to her, it served as tangible proof that Jakarta is a welcoming home for people from all backgrounds. She emphasized that the presence of smiling senior citizens enjoying the festivities reflected the city’s diversity being celebrated collectively. The initiative reinforced Jakarta’s identity as a city that embraces multiculturalism.

Dwi added that the festival represents the provision of shared spaces across ages and cultures, noting that Lunar New Year is not exclusive to one ethnic group but part of the city’s cultural richness. Through this initiative, the Jakarta Provincial Government sought to bring joy to senior citizens while promoting healthy, happy, and prosperous aging. The event aligns with Jakarta’s broader vision of becoming an inclusive city that values and protects its elderly population. She concluded by extending Lunar New Year greetings to all Jakarta residents, expressing hopes for health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead.
