Heavy rainfall that hit Jakarta and surrounding areas from Saturday (March 7) to Sunday (March 8) caused flooding in several parts of the capital. The Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah DKI Jakarta recorded that 148 neighborhood units and 20 road sections were still inundated as of 12:00 p.m. local time. Water levels ranged from about 20 centimeters to as high as 150 centimeters in some areas.
Head of the agency, Isnawa Adji, said flooding occurred in several districts of West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta. The situation was largely caused by intense rainfall over the past few days. Overflow from several rivers also worsened the flooding, including the Ciliwung River, Krukut River, and Pesanggrahan River, along with several connecting canals.
According to the agency’s data, East Jakarta recorded the highest number of affected neighborhood units with 60, followed by South Jakarta with 55 and West Jakarta with 33. Emergency personnel were deployed to monitor flooded locations and coordinate response efforts with several municipal agencies. These included the Water Resources Agency, Public Works Department, and Fire and Rescue Department to pump out water and ensure drainage systems function properly.
Authorities are also providing basic assistance for affected residents. In West Pejaten, several families were forced to evacuate, with 46 households or 72 people taking shelter at the Al Inayah prayer hall. Officials are working to ensure that floodwaters recede as quickly as possible. Residents are urged to remain alert for potential flooding and to contact the emergency hotline 112, which operates 24 hours, in case of urgent situations.
