Public infrastructure officers (PPSU) in Setu Village, East Jakarta, carried out an emergency response to a collapsed retaining wall along Jalan Kramat Oyar in Kampung Kramat. The incident, which had occurred since March 31, raised safety concerns for daily road users.
Setu Village Head, Dwi Widiastuti, stated that 15 personnel were deployed to handle the situation. The effort reflects the local government’s urgency in addressing infrastructure risks that directly affect public safety.
According to Dwi, the collapsed structure measured approximately three meters in length and two meters in depth. The failure was suspected to be caused by the wall’s inability to withstand the load of heavy vehicles passing through the area. She explained that traffic volume had significantly increased due to a diversion from Bekasi. This rerouting occurred after repairs to the Kali Sunter Bridge redirected vehicles to Jalan Kramat Oyar.
The surge in heavy traffic placed additional pressure on the already vulnerable soil structure, ultimately triggering the collapse. As an immediate solution, emergency work began on April 13 using bamboo reinforcement techniques. Dozens of bamboo poles were tightly installed along the slope to stabilize the soil and prevent further landslides. This method was chosen due to the location’s proximity to a steep ravine bordering the Kali Sunter.
The emergency handling was completed within a single day, restoring safer road conditions for motorists. Dwi expressed hope that a permanent solution would soon be implemented to prevent future incidents. A local road user, Slamet, praised the quick response, noting its importance for daily commuters traveling between Bekasi and Ciracas. The incident underscores the need for sustainable infrastructure planning amid changing traffic patterns.
