Residents of RW 05 in Rawa Terate, East Jakarta have intensified a greening initiative by planting productive trees such as matoa and cempedak jackfruit, reflecting a growing grassroots push toward environmental sustainability. The effort focuses not only on expanding green space but also on preserving native Indonesian plant species that are becoming increasingly rare. Local officials emphasized that the program represents both ecological awareness and cultural preservation. The initiative highlights how community-driven actions can contribute to broader urban environmental goals.
RW treasurer Nurhasan explained that tree planting has been carried out along Jalan Krama Yudha, where at least 10 trees have already been planted. He noted that residents hope the trees will grow well and eventually provide both environmental and economic benefits through their fruit. According to him, the program builds on previous greening efforts, including the planting of ornamental pucuk merah plants supported by a local industrial estate company. He added that the initiative will continue gradually to ensure long-term impact.
The program also aims to improve the overall quality of life by creating a cooler, greener, and more comfortable neighborhood. Nurhasan stressed that the goal is not only aesthetic improvement but also fostering a sense of safety and well-being among residents. Community participation plays a central role, with locals actively involved in planting and maintenance. This collective approach reinforces a sense of ownership and responsibility toward the environment.
Residents have responded positively to the initiative, praising local leaders for their proactive efforts. One resident expressed support for planting fruit-bearing trees, noting that the harvest could be shared among the community in the future. He also participates directly by watering the plants ყოველდღ, demonstrating everyday commitment to the program’s success. The initiative stands as an example of how small-scale local actions can create meaningful environmental and social benefits.
