The South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency has deployed 190 garbage trucks of various sizes to accelerate waste management and prevent accumulation across the area. The fleet includes mini dump trucks, arm roll trucks, compactors, and large-capacity typer trucks, all used to transport waste from residential areas to temporary disposal sites. This effort comes as daily waste volume in South Jakarta reaches around 1,120 tons, a figure that typically rises during long holidays and religious celebrations.
Head of the agency, Dedy Setiono, stated that 1,107 personnel have also been mobilized across 10 subdistricts to ensure daily waste collection runs efficiently. Their continuous operations are aimed at preventing buildup in critical locations and maintaining environmental cleanliness. The coordinated deployment of both manpower and vehicles reflects the government’s push for faster and more effective waste handling.
In the processing stage, collected waste is sorted based on type to maximize reuse and reduce environmental impact. Organic waste is converted into compost using maggot-based methods, while plastic waste is processed into economically valuable craft products. Residual waste that cannot be processed is transported to the Bantar Gebang integrated waste facility for final disposal.
Authorities are urging residents to actively participate by maintaining cleanliness and reducing waste generation through proper sorting at the source. This approach aligns with existing regional regulations on community-based waste management, reinforcing the importance of public involvement in sustaining an efficient and environmentally friendly system.
