70 Firefighters Deployed to Extinguish House Fire in Warakas

The Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat) of North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands successfully extinguished a fire that destroyed two houses on Jalan Warakas IV, Gang 15, RT 10/13, in the Warakas Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District. A total of 70 personnel and 14 fire engines were deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further to nearby buildings. The incident once again highlighted the importance of electrical safety in densely populated residential areas across the capital city.

Head of Operations Section for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Sub-department, Gatot Sulaeman, said the fire report was received at around 10:58 p.m. local time. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene as part of a rapid response effort. Upon arrival, officers found that the flames had already engulfed one house and partially spread to an adjacent building. Preliminary findings suggested that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit originating from one of the residences.

According to Gatot, firefighters managed to localize the blaze by 11:22 p.m., before completing the cooling process and fully extinguishing the fire at midnight. Authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or serious injuries resulting from the incident. Following the operation, officials urged residents to remain vigilant and routinely inspect electrical installations inside their homes to minimize the risk of similar fires occurring in the future.

Gatot also reminded residents to ensure that electrical cables and power outlets meet safety standards and to avoid overloading a single electrical socket with multiple plugs. Meanwhile, local resident Sassy Seprianto recalled that the fire was first discovered after neighbors heard loud noises coming from the roof area of a nearby house. When residents checked the source of the commotion, the flames had already grown significantly, prompting them to immediately contact firefighters. Sassy praised the quick response of the firefighting team, saying their swift action prevented the fire from spreading to more homes in the neighborhood.
