Jakarta Future Festival (JFF) 2026 featured an urban talk titled “Accelerating Local Creativity to Create Global Products” at the Grand Theater of Taman Ismail Marzuki, bringing together government officials, creative industry leaders, and academics to discuss how Jakarta can strengthen its creative economy ecosystem and advance its ambitions of becoming a global city. The forum highlighted the importance of collaboration between policymakers, industry players, and cultural communities in expanding the reach of Indonesian creative products.
Presidential Special Staff for Creative Economy Affairs, Yovi Widianto, said the government is committed to supporting the growth of the creative economy through both events and policy measures, including reducing royalty tax rates to around 1.5 percent. He noted that Jakarta has long been an internationally connected city and argued that local artists are already capable of competing globally. According to him, government support can help accelerate the success of creative talents that have previously achieved international recognition on their own.
Yovi also encouraged artists to view artificial intelligence as a tool for growth rather than a threat. Meanwhile, Jakarta Fashion Week founder Svida Alisjahbana emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young designers and creative talents. She said fashion should be seen not only as an economic product but also as a reflection of cultural identity, pointing to cities such as Paris, Milan, and New York, where fashion plays a major role in strengthening city branding.
Svida expressed optimism that Jakarta could develop into a leading fashion capital in Southeast Asia if supported by stronger cooperation among industry stakeholders, media, and government. She highlighted fashion-focused commercial centers such as Thamrin City and Pasar Mayestik, while suggesting additional training and development programs for smaller fashion businesses operating in those areas. Such efforts, she said, could help create a more complete fashion-shopping experience and strengthen Jakarta’s position in the global creative economy.
