MRT Jakarta Signs AFC System Contract for Bundaran HI-Kota Route

The development of Jakarta’s MRT North–South Line Phase 2A reached a significant milestone as PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), Hitachi Rail, and Sumitomo Corporation signed a cooperation agreement for the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system under Contract Package 207. The agreement covers the design, manufacturing, delivery, and installation of the fare collection system that will support MRT operations from Bundaran HI to Kota. MRT Jakarta President Director, Tuhiyat, described the project as a key foundation for future transport integration and customer experience enhancement.

The contract, valued at Rp341.5 billion, forms part of the broader Phase 2A expansion project aimed at extending Jakarta’s MRT network northward. Tuhiyat expressed appreciation to the Indonesian and Japanese governments, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their continued support in advancing modern urban transportation in the capital.

Representatives from Hitachi Rail and Sumitomo Corporation emphasized their commitment to supporting Indonesia’s railway and urban mobility sector through advanced technology and infrastructure expertise. They noted that the AFC system is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance passenger services, and contribute to a more connected and sustainable urban transport ecosystem for Jakarta’s growing population.

The signing ceremony was attended by government officials and transportation stakeholders, while MRT Jakarta reported that construction progress for Phase 2A had reached 60.8 percent as of late May 2026, exceeding its target. The Bundaran HI–Monas segment is scheduled to begin operations in 2027, with the extension to Kota expected to be completed by 2029, further strengthening Jakarta’s public transportation network.
