Ragunan Zoo Sees Surge in Visitors as Crowds Pack the Destination

Thousands of residents took advantage of the Islamic New Year holiday to visit the Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta. By 12:00 p.m., the popular wildlife park had recorded 25,675 visitors, reflecting strong public interest in spending the holiday at one of Jakarta’s most popular recreational and educational destinations. Visitor numbers continued to climb steadily throughout the morning as families arrived from various parts of the city and surrounding areas.

According to Ragunan spokesperson Wahyudi Bambang, the zoo had already welcomed 9,219 visitors by 8:45 a.m., including 7,341 adults and 1,878 children. By midday, the total had risen to 25,675 visitors, consisting of 19,532 adults and 6,143 children. He noted that favorable weather conditions contributed to the growing turnout and encouraged more families to spend the holiday outdoors.

The influx of visitors also brought a significant number of vehicles to the zoo. Records showed 47 buses, 1,800 cars, 3,421 motorcycles, and 282 bicycles entering the area. Wahyudi said current parking facilities remained sufficient, but additional contingency plans had been prepared in case of a larger surge. Zoo management is also coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure traffic around the area remains smooth and manageable.

With visitor numbers continuing to rise, Ragunan management projected attendance could reach 40,000 by late afternoon. Visitors were reminded to follow all regulations, remain vigilant about their children and personal belongings, and help maintain cleanliness throughout the park. One visitor, Yura, said Ragunan remains her family’s preferred holiday destination because it combines recreation with educational experiences, allowing children to learn about animals such as orangutans while enjoying the zoo’s well-maintained environment and informative exhibits.
