Panggang Island Residents Learn the Art of Cake-Making

Around 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from Panggang Island Urban Village in the Seribu Islands participated in a cake-making training program held at the Pulau Pramuka State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) House. The initiative was organized through a collaboration between the Panggang Island Urban Village administration and BUMN to strengthen local business capacity and create new economic opportunities. Head of Panggang Island Urban Village, Jamaluddin said the program was designed to equip participants with practical skills that could be directly applied in their businesses. The training reflects a broader effort to empower local entrepreneurs while supporting sustainable economic growth in the island community.

Jamaluddin expressed hope that the program would encourage the development of higher-quality culinary products capable of supporting the Seribu Islands’ tourism industry. By improving the variety and quality of locally produced food, the administration aims to increase the competitiveness of community-based businesses. Strengthening the culinary sector is also expected to generate additional sources of income for local residents. The initiative demonstrates how skills development can contribute to both economic resilience and tourism promotion.

Meanwhile, Seribu Islands BUMN House Coordinator, Misbahul Anam explained that the training focused on enhancing participants’ technical abilities while inspiring innovation in the bakery sector, which still offers significant market potential in the region. During the session, participants learned how to prepare bomboloni donuts and received guidance on attractive product packaging to improve market appeal. Combining production skills with marketing techniques is expected to help small businesses create products with greater commercial value. Such training highlights the importance of equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge that extends beyond food preparation alone.

One of the participants, Mumun, said the training was both engaging and easy to understand, adding that she planned to apply the newly acquired skills to her existing culinary business. Her enthusiasm reflects the positive response from local entrepreneurs who view capacity-building programs as valuable opportunities for business development. Continuous investment in community training can strengthen the competitiveness of small enterprises while encouraging innovation in local industries. As tourism continues to grow in the Seribu Islands, initiatives like this may play an increasingly important role in expanding the local economy and improving community livelihoods.
