Pasar Minggu District Expresses High Optimism to Win Provincial Model Village Competition

Pasar Minggu Urban Village in Pasar Minggu District is intensifying preparations for the Outstanding Urban Village Competition at the Jakarta Provincial level, which is scheduled to take place in the coming days. Local officials are conducting final evaluations and refining their presentations to ensure the village’s flagship programs and innovations are showcased effectively. The preparations involve close coordination between the urban village administration and various stakeholders within the South Jakarta City Administration. The goal is to present initiatives that have delivered measurable and sustainable benefits to the community.

Pasar Minggu Urban Village Head Meilita said the administration is reviewing and strengthening the featured programs and innovations that have been developed throughout the area. She emphasized that every initiative to be presented is the result of collaboration between the local government and residents, rather than projects created solely for the competition. According to her, the featured innovations reflect real conditions in the community and have been implemented on an ongoing basis. In addition to field preparations, the administration is also finalizing supporting documentation to demonstrate the successful implementation of these programs, which previously earned Pasar Minggu the opportunity to represent South Jakarta at the provincial level.

Among the flagship innovations are a community-based waste management system that encourages sorting and processing waste at its source, as well as a food security program built on circular economy principles. Meilita expressed confidence that these initiatives would highlight the urban village’s commitment to sustainable development while strengthening its chances in the competition. She said the administration aims to achieve the best possible result and proudly represent South Jakarta, reflecting the spirit of the village’s slogan, “Pasar Minggu Tangguh.” According to her, the ultimate objective is to become an inspiring model for other urban villages across Jakarta.

Meanwhile, RW 05 community leader Wiwin Budi Santoso also expressed optimism that the innovations developed by local residents would provide a significant advantage during the assessment process. One of the featured projects is a rice cultivation initiative that uses recycled water gallon containers as planting media to support neighborhood food security. The rice is expected to reach harvest time in approximately 70 days, demonstrating the practicality of urban agriculture in limited spaces. Wiwin believes this community-driven innovation, together with other sustainable programs, will strengthen Pasar Minggu Urban Village’s bid to achieve an outstanding result in the Jakarta Provincial Outstanding Urban Village Competition.
