South Jakarta Administration Strengthens Commitment to Protecting Women and Children

The South Jakarta City Administration has strengthened its commitment to protecting women and children by signing a joint pledge with regional government agencies and holding a public awareness event under the theme “Joint Commitment to Keep South Jakarta Safe and Inclusive for Women and Children.” The initiative aims to reinforce collaboration in creating a safer, more inclusive environment for vulnerable groups.

South Jakarta Vice Mayor Ali Murthadho said the “Jaga Jakarta” movement goes beyond maintaining public order and infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that women and children feel safe, receive proper protection, and have equal access to fair and inclusive public services free from violence and discrimination. He stressed that success should be measured not only by the number of programs implemented, but also by declining violence cases, improved public safety, and stronger trust in government.

Head of the South Jakarta PPAPP Agency, Rizky Hamid, said the event serves as a platform to strengthen coordination among government agencies in preventing violence against women and children. He emphasized that public policies and services should consistently incorporate gender perspectives and address the needs of vulnerable groups, including women, children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

Through the joint commitment, regional agencies pledged to integrate women and child protection into their policies, programs, and public services while enhancing cross-sector cooperation to support South Jakarta’s goals of becoming a Child-Friendly City and a Gender-Responsive City. The administration also called for continued support from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and other stakeholders to improve prevention and response efforts.
