A total of 1,660 participants from the general public, students, and various community organizations took part in the 2026 West Jakarta Mayor’s Fun Run on Sunday (23/8). The five-kilometer recreational run started and finished at the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office, passing through several routes including Puri Indah Raya, Kembang Barat, Notre Dame, and Pasar Puri. West Jakarta Mayor, Iin Mutmainnah, said the event was held for the first time as part of celebrations marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary. She said the event also provided an opportunity for government officials and residents to strengthen their sense of community.
Iin expressed her appreciation for the large turnout and said the event demonstrated togetherness among West Jakarta residents. She hoped similar activities could be held again in the future on a larger scale and with more thorough preparation. Beyond promoting physical activity, the event was intended to strengthen ties between the local government and the community. The mayor emphasized that public participation is important in creating a stronger and more connected community.
Iin also encouraged residents to strengthen their sense of patriotism and contribute to the development of West Jakarta. She linked the spirit of building the city with efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Residents were encouraged to participate in waste separation as part of everyday environmental responsibility. She said these efforts could help make West Jakarta cleaner, healthier, and safer.
The Fun Run therefore served not only as a recreational sporting event but also as a platform for strengthening community spirit. The participation of residents, students, and community organizations reflected broad public involvement in the city’s Independence Day celebrations. The local government hopes such activities can continue to encourage healthy lifestyles while strengthening cooperation between officials and residents. Through continued community participation, West Jakarta aims to build a healthier, cleaner, and more united environment.
