The Jakarta Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, or BBPOM Jakarta, held a meeting with the East Jakarta Municipal Government on Friday, August 21, to strengthen cooperation in monitoring the safety of medicines and food products. The meeting also focused on empowering the public to avoid products that could pose health risks. BBPOM Jakarta Head, Jeffeta Pradeko Putra, said existing cooperation needed to be strengthened through more strategic monitoring and public education. He particularly highlighted the importance of educating students about the dangers of drug misuse.
Jeffeta said cross-sector cooperation was essential to address unsafe medicines and food products, as well as the misuse of drugs that could endanger public health. East Jakarta Assistant for Administration and Public Welfare, Achmad Salahudin, welcomed the initiative and said the meeting could help make monitoring efforts across the city more effective. As an initial step, education and public outreach programs will be expanded to various community groups. The goal is to build broader awareness about medicine and food safety.
The education program will use a Training of Trainers, or TOT, approach involving representatives from regional government agencies, community health centers, parent committees, village-level cadres, Family Welfare Empowerment cadres, and other community groups. These participants are expected to help spread information about safe medicines and food products, including preventing drug misuse. The approach is intended to make public education more extensive and sustainable. BBPOM Jakarta and the East Jakarta Government also discussed strengthening cross-sector involvement in these efforts.
The meeting also covered assistance for small and medium-sized food businesses through the Rusunpreneur Rumah Bakso program, downstream development of medicines and food products, and compliance among home-based food industries. The expansion of BBPOM Jakarta’s assets was also discussed as part of efforts to improve public services. Through stronger cooperation, both institutions hope to develop more effective measures for creating a healthier environment. The broader objective is to protect East Jakarta residents from medicines and food products that could threaten their health.
