The Indonesian Red Cross, PMI, Jakarta Chapter awarded several Hospital Blood Banks, BDRS, across Jakarta in recognition of their dedication to maintaining the availability, safety, and quality of blood services for patients. PMI Jakarta Chairman, Beky Mardani, said blood cannot be manufactured and relies entirely on human donors, particularly voluntary donors. He described blood services as a long humanitarian chain involving donors, PMI Blood Donation Units, and hospitals through their BDRS facilities. These hospital blood banks serve as a crucial final link in ensuring blood is available safely, accurately, and according to patients’ needs.
Beky said the awards were not simply intended to identify the best-performing hospitals, but also to recognize their contributions and strengthen cooperation between PMI and hospitals. He highlighted three areas that need continued improvement: collaboration between PMI and hospitals, service quality at BDRS facilities, and regular blood donation campaigns within hospitals. Hospitals were encouraged to establish more responsive and supportive cooperation so patients’ blood needs can be met effectively. Beky also urged BDRS facilities to consistently prioritize safe, high-quality services and patient safety.
He hoped the awards would serve as motivation for hospitals to maintain and improve their service standards rather than become an end goal. Hospitals were also encouraged to become part of the humanitarian movement by organizing regular blood donation drives to strengthen PMI’s blood supplies. Head of Health Services at the Jakarta Health Agency, Ratna Sari, said the capital has relatively comprehensive healthcare facilities, including nearly 100 hospitals, 44 Regional General Hospitals, and more than 3,000 clinics. She added that while healthcare facilities and medical personnel are important, PMI and BDRS facilities also play a significant role in ensuring patients have adequate access to blood.
Ratna expressed her appreciation for the work of BDRS facilities and hoped the awards would encourage them to further improve services for the public. The 10 best BDRS facilities in Jakarta for 2025 were RS MMC, RSPON Prof. Dr. dr. Mahar Mardjono Jakarta, RS EMC Grha Kedoya, RSUD Cengkareng, RS Medistra, RS Pusat Pertamina, RS MRCCC Siloam Hospitals Semanggi, RS Pluit, RS St. Carolus, and RS Pondok Indah. The recognition underscores the importance of cooperation between PMI and hospitals in maintaining reliable blood supplies. Beky emphasized that both institutions ultimately share the same humanitarian mission: saving lives.
