The East Jakarta Social Agency and the local Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) have distributed assistance to 49 residents affected by a fire in Kampung Kandang Besar, Ujung Menteng, Cakung. The fire on Saturday, September 19, destroyed 16 homes and displaced 16 families, comprising 49 people. The survivors are currently staying in an evacuation tent established by the East Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) near the incident site. The assistance is intended to help meet the immediate needs of residents while they remain displaced.
Head of the East Jakarta Social Agency, Agata Bayu Putra, said the assistance includes ready-to-eat meals and basic necessities following a request from Ujung Menteng officials. A total of 100 meal boxes and bottled water are being distributed in the morning, afternoon, and evening through Tuesday, September 22. The agency also provided seven types of basic goods, including rice, cooking oil, sweet soy sauce, biscuits, canned sardines, instant noodles, and reusable goodie bags. The supplies were handed to the local village head, accompanied by neighborhood officials and the Village Consultative Council, for distribution at the BPBD evacuation site.
The basic assistance consisted of 16 five-kilogram bags of rice, 16 two-liter pouches of cooking oil, 16 bottles of sweet soy sauce, 32 packs of biscuits, 32 cans of sardines, 16 boxes of instant noodles, and 16 goodie bags. The Indonesian Red Cross branch in East Jakarta also contributed eight school kits to support affected children. Chairman of the East Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross, Bambang Pangestu Aldriyan, said the assistance was intended to ease the burden on residents affected by the fire. The combined support reflects efforts by local agencies and humanitarian organizations to address both immediate household and educational needs.
Head of the Economic and Development Section of Ujung Menteng, Pipit Ayu Suwandari, expressed appreciation to all parties involved in providing assistance. Local officials said the support was particularly useful and needed by residents who had lost their homes and were staying in temporary shelters. Continued coordination between government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and local communities will be important as the survivors remain displaced. The assistance provides short-term relief while local authorities continue supporting residents affected by the fire.
