The Central Jakarta Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting land acquisition for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) East-West Corridor, specifically the Thamrin-Kwitang segment, through an open, fair, and community-oriented process. Central Jakarta City Secretary, Denny Ramdany, said transparent and intensive communication would be essential because infrastructure development can directly affect residents’ social, economic, and environmental conditions. Preliminary data indicates that the project will affect 64 parties and 17 residents across Gambir, Kebon Sirih, Senen, and Kwitang urban villages. Authorities said particular attention would be given to identifying and resolving individual issues through the appropriate legal mechanisms.
The latest public consultation follows an earlier socialization session on September 16 and initial site data collection conducted from September 17 to 18, 2026. Residents were provided with information concerning the project’s objectives, the assessment of compensation, affected properties, forms of compensation, and the rights and obligations of the parties involved. The Jakarta administration has stated that affected residents will receive legal certainty and appropriate compensation in accordance with applicable regulations. The consultation process is intended to provide residents with a clearer understanding of how the land acquisition will proceed.
Denny emphasized that negotiations and transparency would be used to minimize misunderstandings while allowing community activities and public services to continue during construction. District and urban village governments are expected to serve as intermediaries for residents’ concerns, with neighborhood leaders and community and religious figures also encouraged to help maintain a constructive environment. The administration also aims to prevent prolonged disruption to residents’ access and daily activities throughout the construction period. Beyond transportation improvements, officials expect the East-West MRT project to support local economic activity, connectivity, and the broader quality of life in Jakarta.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Government Administration Bureau, Fajar Eko Satriyo, said the East-West MRT project has been designated a National Strategic Project (PSN). He described the development as an important component of Jakarta’s wider transportation system, with implications extending beyond the capital itself. Fajar reiterated the government’s commitment to conducting land acquisition openly and fairly while providing legal certainty and appropriate compensation for affected communities. The process will therefore depend not only on infrastructure planning but also on continued communication and consultation with residents throughout the land acquisition stage.
