The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is urging residents to prepare for potential meteorological drought from September 1 to 10, 2026. The warning, based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), covers nearly all areas of Jakarta. South Jakarta is the only area not included in the current alert category. Meteorological drought occurs when rainfall remains below normal levels for a sustained period.
Jakarta BPBD Acting Head, Marulitua Sijabat, said residents should remain alert to the possible impacts of prolonged dry conditions. The agency is advising households to conserve clean water and use existing supplies efficiently. Residents are also encouraged to store sufficient water in case conditions worsen. Weather developments and early warnings from BMKG and Jakarta BPBD should also be monitored closely.
The dry conditions could also increase the risk of fires and other household hazards. Residents have been reminded not to burn waste or start fires in open areas during the dry period. They are also advised to inspect electrical installations and cooking stoves to reduce the possibility of accidents. Preventive measures are considered important as low rainfall can create conditions that allow fires to spread more easily.
Jakarta BPBD is asking residents to remain vigilant throughout the potential drought period and respond promptly to official warnings. The agency emphasizes that conserving water and preventing fires are responsibilities shared by households and the wider community.
