South Jakarta City Government plans to build an Inter-Village Bridge, or Jembatan Antar Kampung (JAK), connecting Ulujami Subdistrict in Pesanggrahan with Kebayoran Lama Utara in Kebayoran Lama. The project is intended to provide residents with safer and more convenient access across the Pesanggrahan River. Currently, residents rely on a self-operated raft to cross the river between the two areas. The existing crossing is considered risky, particularly when water levels rise.
South Jakarta Mayor, Syafrin Liputo, said the bridge is being planned in response to residents’ concerns over the lack of proper crossing facilities and the potential for the Pesanggrahan River to overflow. He said authorities had already inspected the proposed location and were coordinating the project. The physical construction will be carried out by the South Jakarta Highways Sub-agency. Once completed, the bridge is expected to provide a safer alternative for residents who need to cross the river.
The city government is also taking preventive measures against flooding and waterlogging in Ulujami and Kebayoran Lama Utara. The South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency is currently cleaning and dredging sediment from the Pesanggrahan River to improve its capacity and reduce the risk of flooding. Syafrin said dredging efforts are being intensified across the area during the dry season. The work is expected to help minimize the impact of rising water levels when the rainy season arrives.
The planned JAK is therefore intended to address both connectivity and public safety concerns in the two neighborhoods. Providing a permanent bridge would reduce residents’ dependence on the potentially dangerous self-operated raft crossing. At the same time, river maintenance is being strengthened to address the broader risks posed by the Pesanggrahan River. The South Jakarta Government hopes both measures will improve mobility and safety for residents in the area.
