Police apprehended eight individuals during a raid on a shop selling illegal drugs in Bekasi, West Java. The suspects consisted of both store employees and customers who were present at the time. The operation stemmed from investigations into motorcycle theft, gang fights, and street violence in Cileungsi, Bogor. Authorities suspect that many of the criminals involved had consumed illegal substances sold by the shop.
Cileungsi Police Chief Commissioner Edison explained that suspects arrested in previous cases had admitted to misusing painkillers like Tramadol and other illegal pills. “We’ve seen repeat instances where teenage gang members and motorcycle thieves were under the influence of these substances,” Edison said. This raised alarms about the distribution point of the drugs. The investigation led police to the shop, which became the target of the recent raid.
During the operation, officers confiscated 5,907 pills of various illegal brands and types. Police also seized IDR 4.1 million in cash believed to be from drug sales, as well as two motorcycles left behind by suspects who fled the scene. After identifying and processing the suspects and evidence, police handed the case over to the Bogor Police Narcotics Unit (Satnarkoba Polres Bogor). The case will be further developed under their jurisdiction.
Edison further revealed that the store operated daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. from a former factory site in Jatisampurna. The shop reportedly earned between IDR 4 million and 10 million per day. In addition to individual buyers, the customer base included drug dealers from across West Java. “These buyers came from places like Cianjur and Purwakarta — many were middlemen who resold the drugs elsewhere,” Edison added.
