Jakarta’s Governor, Pramono Anung, spoke at the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) 2025 during his work visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His presence underscored Jakarta’s commitment to becoming a Top 20 Global City by 2045, with sustainability as the core of urban development. Governor Pramono emphasized long-term plans centered on sustainable transformation, strong collaboration, and shared progress aligned with ASEAN’s spirit. The forum provided a platform to showcase Jakarta’s vision for global urban leadership.
Currently ranked 74th on Kearney’s 2024 Global Cities Index, Jakarta has prepared a roadmap to rise in rank by 2045. This includes strengthening human resources, transforming bureaucracy, enhancing cultural identity, transparent public communication, emission reduction, and eco-friendly infrastructure development. Governor Pramono highlighted that Jakarta’s role in the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 is expressed through priority initiatives. These include inclusive policy dialogues, gender-responsive governance, and community health programs.
Jakarta Future Festival serves as a platform for inclusive policy dialogue and citizen engagement, said Pramono. The city has implemented women-only public transport services and community health outreach prioritizing elderly home care. Efforts also include vocational training centers to prepare a job-ready workforce and expanding the JAKI application for better public service access. Governor Pramono concluded with a call for strengthened cross-sector collaboration across ASEAN.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Indonesia, Bima Arya, also spoke at the event. He praised Jakarta’s sustainability programs led by President Prabowo Subianto and highlighted the policy requiring civil servants to use public transportation every Wednesday. Arya described this as a bold step to drive behavior change for sustainability. He noted Jakarta as a real example where transformation begins within government.
