In an effort to strengthen public communication and increase community participation in maintaining security and order, Head of Operations of Jayapura City Police, Commissioner Ferdinan Numbery, joined as a guest speaker in the live broadcast of the interactive program Polisi Menyapa on RRI Pro 1 Jayapura, Thursday, August 21, 2025. The dialogue carried the theme “Creating a Sense of Safety and Comfort in the Land of Port Numbay” and was hosted by presenter Arul Firmansyah. Also present were Head of Public Relations of Papua Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, along with supporting personnel from the coverage team. The event underscored the role of communication channels as a bridge between law enforcement and the public.
In his address, Ferdinan highlighted the need for all community elements to work together in safeguarding stability after the announcement of Papua’s regional election results. He invoked the unity of Jayapura’s land, sea, and mountains as a metaphor for citizens’ solidarity in maintaining peace. According to him, peace is not a gift but the outcome of joint effort, requiring constant nurturing to ensure a better life for future generations. His remarks framed security as a shared responsibility that transcends police duty alone.
Ferdinan also presented data on public order and safety from January to July 2025, noting 1,853 police reports, of which 731 were resolved, with a spike in May reaching 309 cases. Drug-related offenses, particularly cannabis trafficking, remained a dominant issue, with 26,773 grams seized as evidence. Traffic accidents were also highlighted, totaling 667 incidents resulting in 39 fatalities, 170 serious injuries, and 781 minor injuries. Street crime, especially motorcycle theft concentrated in Abepura, South Jayapura, and Heram, posed additional challenges, with early morning hours being the most vulnerable time.
In response, the police have intensified their strategies through the Bhabinkamtibmas community policing program, targeted operations such as Operasi Patuh, and joint patrols under Garnisun involving the military, local government, and other stakeholders. These steps are aimed at curbing illegal alcohol distribution and ensuring safer streets. Concluding his remarks, Ferdinan reaffirmed the full commitment of Jayapura City Police to maintaining order but emphasized the irreplaceable role of community support. He urged disputes to be settled with dignity through legal channels and dialogue, declaring that Jayapura’s peace is a collective responsibility, one that symbolizes harmony from Port Numbay to Papua, and from Papua to a peaceful Indonesia.
