80 Participants Join North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Redkar Challenge
North Jakarta Mayor, Hendra Hidayat, praised the Redkar Challenge 2025, a competition involving 80 Community Firefighter Volunteers (Redkar) from six districts in North Jakarta and two districts in the Thousand Islands. The event, organized by the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat), highlighted the vital role of Redkar as the frontline force in neighborhoods.
Hendra emphasized that these volunteers are not only essential in firefighting but also in prevention, early response, and recovery after incidents. He described the challenge as both a competition and a platform to strengthen camaraderie among volunteers.
Hendra said, that the volunteers’ work goes beyond emergencies, as they are also educators for their communities in fire prevention and safety practices. He expressed hope that the event would boost their physical, mental, and intellectual readiness while nurturing solidarity among members. According to him, strengthening such capacities would ensure that Redkar is always prepared to face emergencies with resilience. He urged residents to support Redkar’s mission in keeping North Jakarta safe from fire hazards.
Acting Head of the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Sub-Department, Muchtar, explained that the competition was designed to enhance the skills, speed, and agility of the participants. He stated that the 80 volunteers came with great enthusiasm and determination, representing their respective districts. Muchtar underlined that the drills and techniques practiced in the competition could be directly applied in real-life scenarios to protect residents. He affirmed that readiness and consistent training are the backbone of effective community fire prevention.
One participant, Rini Triningsih from Semper Timur, expressed her excitement at representing Cilincing District in the challenge. She said that her involvement demonstrated that women could also be bold and capable in handling fire emergencies. Rini expressed confidence that she and her team could achieve success in the competition. Her story reflected the inclusivity and empowerment that the Redkar program aims to promote.
