Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, personally inspected the implementation of the Cheap Food Movement at the Police Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) in Pabelan, Semarang Regency, on Tuesday, September 22, 2025. The program is part of the police’s commitment to support the government in maintaining stable food supply and affordable prices. Around 500 residents attended the event, reflecting strong public interest in the initiative. The atmosphere highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions in responding to food security challenges.
At the site, the police in cooperation with state-owned logistics agency Bulog distributed six tons of subsidized rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) scheme, along with other essential goods at below-market prices. For instance, a sack of rice normally priced at Rp70,000 was sold for Rp58,000, while cooking oil was offered at Rp15,500 per liter. Such pricing strategies demonstrate how state-backed intervention can ease household burdens.
General Sigit stressed that this program proves the role of the police extends beyond security into ensuring social welfare. The Police Chief also noted that the Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jawa Tengah) had distributed approximately 20,000 tons of SPHP rice, while the national police network has delivered a total of 72,567 tons across 54,454 locations.
General Sigit emphasized that these measures aim not only to stabilize prices but also to ensure accessibility for low- and middle-income families. Residents expressed their satisfaction, affirming that the reduced prices provided tangible relief. For Sigit, such feedback validates the effectiveness of sustained food security programs.
Furthermore, the General stated that rice prices in Central Java, particularly for medium-quality varieties, have already aligned with the government’s Highest Retail Price (HET). He underlined that these achievements are the result of coordinated national efforts. During his visit, he also inspected the operational readiness of the SPPG kitchen facilities. The initiative is expected to support the Free Nutritious Meals Program and strengthen the broader agenda of national food resilience.
