Operation to Find KM Usaha Baru Crew Officially Concluded

Head of the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Task Force for the Thousand Islands, Mansyah, confirmed that the three-day search operation from October 7 to 9 had officially concluded after all crew members of the fishing vessel KM Usaha Baru were found. The boat capsized on September 7, 2025, after being struck by high waves near the Thousand Islands region. Rescue efforts began immediately after the incident, with teams working continuously to locate the missing individuals. The operation involved coordination among BPBD officers, maritime police, and local fishermen.

Mansyah stated that the final missing crew member, identified as Udin, was discovered lifeless on Thursday, October 9, at approximately 12:14 p.m. local time. The body was found in the waters near Pari Island, not far from the site where the boat had overturned. Before this discovery, joint search teams had combed the waters around Ayer Island, Pari Island, Karang Beras Island, and Tunda Island. The coordinated effort marked the end of an extensive and challenging search across several remote coastal areas.

Authorities ensured that the recovered body was promptly returned to the victim’s family following proper identification procedures. Mansyah expressed his deepest condolences and hoped that the grieving relatives would remain strong in the face of this tragedy. He also emphasized the dedication of all personnel who participated in the mission under challenging sea conditions. Their perseverance demonstrated the importance of joint emergency response in maritime disasters.

Meanwhile, Village Head of Untung Jawa Island, Sidartawan, also extended his condolences to the victim’s family. He explained that the KM Usaha Baru had departed from Cituis Port in Tangerang before being overwhelmed by rough seas near Bokor Island. Out of eight crew members, seven were rescued alive, while one was confirmed deceased. Sidartawan thanked all parties involved and reminded local fishermen to always check weather forecasts and prioritize safety before sailing.
