Speed Table Construction Aims to Improve Safety

The South Jakarta Road and Bridge Agency has initiated the construction of speed tables—raised traffic calming devices—across three key locations in Cilandak District. The goal is to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians. These installations are located at the curve of Jalan Fatmawati Raya towards Jalan RA Kartini near MRT Fatmawati Station, at Jalan Fatmawati Raya towards Jalan TB Simatupang (Citos direction), and at Jalan RA Kartini–Jalan Fatmawati Raya (northward turn to Haji Nawi). Each site was chosen based on accident-prone characteristics and high pedestrian activity.

Another speed table is scheduled for construction next week at the TB Simatupang–Fatmawati intersection near Fatmawati Hospital. This project forms part of Jakarta’s broader initiative to improve traffic discipline and minimize road fatalities. Officials emphasized that coordination with local traffic police has already been completed to avoid congestion during construction. Proper signage and road markings will also accompany each installation to warn motorists in advance.

Head of the South Jakarta Road and Bridge Sub-agency, Engineer Rifki Rismal, explained that the height of each speed table is aligned with the existing sidewalk level to ensure smoother pedestrian crossings. He noted that this approach enhances accessibility, especially for children and the elderly. The construction teams were instructed to use durable materials resistant to heavy rainfall and traffic loads. According to him, comfort and safety are the main priorities of the project.

Meanwhile, District Head of Cilandak, Administrator Djaharuddin, urged all motorists to remain cautious when passing through the affected roads. He expressed optimism that the initiative would improve service quality for both drivers and pedestrians. The official stated that such developments represent a commitment by the local government to provide safer public spaces. Ultimately, he framed the project as part of Jakarta’s long-term vision for urban livability and citizen well-being.
