1,318 New Street Lights Installed in North Jakarta

The North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-Department has completed the installation of 1,318 new street-lighting points across six districts from January to October 2025. According to Section Head for Urban Utility Infrastructure and Public Street Lighting, Untung Pitoyo, the installations were placed along neighborhood roads, residential alleys, and several collector roads. He explained that the program followed proposals from development forums, council members’ recess reports, and requests from local RT and RW leaders. The effort reflects a broad response to community needs for better lighting.

Untung detailed that Penjaringan received 301 units, Cilincing 441 units, Pademangan 168 units, Tanjung Priok 134 units, Koja 81 units, and Kelapa Gading 193 units. He noted that this year’s target was 1,000 points, but the outcome surpassed expectations with 1,318 installations. All new lights use LED fixtures ranging from 90–120 watts on main roads and 40–90 watts in neighborhood lanes. Each streetlight pole stands at a height of seven meters to ensure optimal illumination.

He emphasized that the additional lighting is expected to improve public safety and comfort. Brighter streets reduce the risk of traffic accidents and help deter criminal activity in previously dark areas. Untung also encouraged residents to continue reporting unlit or damaged lamps so they can be handled promptly. His team remains committed to maintaining reliable nighttime visibility across the city.

North Jakarta City Council Coordinator, Epriyanto, expressed appreciation for the improvements that support residents’ mobility, especially at night. He noted that not only new lights were installed but damaged ones were also replaced by the maintenance teams. Epriyanto urged residents to safeguard the publicly funded facilities to ensure long-term benefit. He reminded the community that good lighting serves everyone and should not be vandalized or stolen.
