A total of 2,248 pothole locations across Central Jakarta were repaired between January and February 11, 2025, reflecting an intensified response to road damage during the rainy season. The Central Jakarta Highways Sub-agency recorded that the repairs were carried out using cold mix asphalt across eight districts. This figure highlights the scale of routine infrastructure maintenance required in dense urban areas. The repairs form part of ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and traffic flow.
Head of the Central Jakarta Highways Sub-agency, M. Soleh, stated that 103 “yellow task force” personnel were deployed to handle the repairs throughout the city’s districts. The team addressed potholes based on public reports submitted through social media channels, as well as findings from field monitoring. Officials were also assigned to inspect road segments during their daily commute to and from the office. This dual approach combines citizen participation with proactive government oversight.
Soleh explained that persistent high rainfall has significantly contributed to the emergence of potholes and may continue to increase the number of damaged spots. Heavy rain can erode cold mix asphalt, even in areas that have already been patched. As a result, some repaired sections may deteriorate again under sustained weather pressure. The situation underscores the challenge of maintaining road infrastructure amid extreme weather patterns.
The administration acknowledges that road maintenance during peak rainy conditions requires continuous monitoring and rapid response. While temporary patching with cold mix asphalt offers a practical short-term solution, long-term durability remains weather-dependent. Authorities continue to encourage residents to report damaged roads to ensure swift action. The repairs demonstrate an ongoing commitment to public safety, even as environmental factors pose recurring obstacles.
