Warning Signs Installed at High-Risk Points by Bina Marga

The Jakarta Public Works (Bina Marga) Agency has installed warning signs at high-risk road sections as a preventive effort to enhance traffic safety amid persistent heavy rainfall. The warnings are placed in damage-prone areas that could pose risks to motorists, particularly where potholes and slippery surfaces are more likely to develop. In addition to roadside signage, safety messages are displayed on videotrons mounted on pedestrian bridges managed by the agency. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to minimizing weather-related traffic hazards.

Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Center at the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, stated that the warnings are intended to remind drivers to remain vigilant and adjust their speed when passing through vulnerable areas. She emphasized that motorists should maintain safe distances and reduce speed during the rainy season. The messaging campaign serves as both a preventive measure and a public awareness effort. By prioritizing high-risk sections, the agency aims to reduce the likelihood of accidents linked to deteriorating road conditions.

Beyond issuing warnings, the agency continues to conduct routine monitoring across Jakarta. The “yellow task force” regularly inspects road segments and responds promptly to public complaints about potholes. This dual system—combining field surveillance with citizen reports—enables quicker identification of emerging road damage. It also highlights the role of community participation in infrastructure maintenance.

Wenny noted that emergency pothole repairs are ongoing despite challenging weather conditions. While heavy rainfall can accelerate asphalt deterioration, the agency remains committed to carrying out immediate patchwork to ensure road usability. The continued maintenance effort underscores the administration’s responsibility to safeguard road users during the rainy season. Authorities once again urge motorists to exercise caution, given the heightened risks of potholes and slippery surfaces.
