681 High-Risk Animals in Tanah Abang Receive Rabies Vaccination

A total of 681 Rabies-Transmitting Animals (HPR) in Tanah Abang Subdistrict, Central Jakarta, were vaccinated between January and the second week of February 2026. The program was carried out through a mobile vaccination service to ensure broader community access. The initiative aims to strengthen rabies prevention efforts at the local level while maintaining public health and safety.

Head of the Central Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency, Siti Halimah, explained that the vaccination drive focused on seven urban villages: Bendungan Hilir, Gelora, Kampung Bali, Karet Tengsin, Kebon Melati, Kebon Kacang, and Petamburan. She noted that the free “door-to-door” vaccination service received strong enthusiasm from residents, who actively brought their pets for immunization.

Of the total animals vaccinated, 579 were cats, 97 were dogs, four were monkeys, and one was a civet. The agency has set a target of vaccinating 6,000 HPR across eight subdistricts in Central Jakarta by the end of 2026. In 2025 alone, 5,924 animals were vaccinated, consisting of 4,914 cats, 959 dogs, 27 civets, and 24 monkeys.

According to Siti, the rabies vaccination program is a strategic step to safeguard environmental health and public safety. It also supports the city’s commitment to maintaining its rabies-free status since 2004. The effort aligns with the broader vision of developing Jakarta as a healthy, safe, and globally competitive city for all residents.
